The Wish You Well Foundation
The KARLA FUND is deeply grateful to author David Baldacci, who made a very generous donation to our organization during the 2004 holiday season through his own literacy charity The Wish You Well Foundation. The foundation supports family literacy in the United States by fostering and promoting the development and expansion of new and existing literacy and educational programs like the KARLA FUND.
The KARLA FUND is very pleased and proud to join the other worthy recipients of the generosity of The Wish You Well Foundation; the Appalachian College Fund, the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, the Book Buddies, The Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy, and the Volusia Literary Council.
The Rosebud Foundation
The Rosebud Foundation of Ann Arbor has been a very generous contributor to the KARLA FUND throughout our history. Earlier this year, they provided us with another very generous gift, which has been instrumental in helping us achieve our goal of placing the KARLA FUND on the World Wide Web. It is our hope that sharing the activities of our organization via the web, while encouraging others to help us grow and expand, will help us fulfill our mission. The Rosebud Foundation funds projects that will improve the well being of children, youth and seniors in Washtenaw County. The Foundation’s goal is to develop the maximum potential and improve the school readiness of children and youth through effective parenting, parent literacy, and pre-school education.
Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital
The KARLA FUND would like to extend its thanks to the staff of Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital, our partners in our children’s literacy project. Their enthusiastic support and cooperation helped us start our reading program in 1998 and their staff, administration and hospital volunteers have worked tirelessly to make the KARLA FUND a success. We cannot thank them enough for their efforts.
Nicola’s Books
The KARLA FUND wishes to express gratitude to Nicola Rooney, owner of Nicola’s Books in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Nicola has supported our foundation in a number of ways, including allowing us to raise funds by gift-wrapping books in her store during the holiday season. We thank her for her continuing support of the fund.
The First Congregational Church of Ann Arbor
The Missions and Outreach Committee of the First Congregational Church of Ann Arbor has given generously to the KARLA FUND for a number of years, helping us to continue our literacy activities at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital. We thank them for their continuing support and belief in the importance of our mission.
Lakeland Middle School, Pinckney, Michigan
The KARLA FUND thanks sixth-grade teacher Debbie Loukotka and the students in her classes who have raised money over a number of years to benefit our organization. Debbie and these students not only know the value and enjoyment of reading, but they want to help others share in the adventure and pleasure of books as well.
The Junior League of Ann Arbor
A grant from the Junior League of Ann Arbor enabled the KARLA FUND to produce an instructional video and instructional booklet which is used at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital to teach parents the importance of reading to their children from birth. We thank them for helping us begin our program.
Grossman Family Foundation
A grant from the Grossman Family Foundation in 2000 helped the KARLA FUND supply a large number of our packets to Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital for distribution to parents with sick or premature newborns. We thank them for their generous gift.
Ann Arbor Western Kiwanis
We thank the Ann Arbor Western Kiwanis for their financial contribution to the KARLA FUND.
